Synopsis
The death of Deccan Ribobe, a little-known ceremonial guardian of Holy Wood Hill, releases a strange influence that lingers over the site. Some months later, alchemists on the Disc discover how to make moving pictures, and hopefuls flock to Holy Wood to seek their fortune, among them university dropout Victor Tugelbend and small-town hopeful Theda "Ginger" Withel, along with the relentlessly enterprising promoter Cut-Me-Own-Throat Dibbler. With help from Gaspode, a foul-mouthed talking dog, Victor and Ginger quickly become stars of the fast-growing new industry. But the booming business of moving pictures is doing more than making people famous: as Victor investigates Deccan's remains and uncovers old records about Holy Wood's history, and as Ginger begins acting strangely under some unseen influence, it becomes clear that the new medium is placing dangerous stress on the boundary between reality and whatever lies beyond.
