Synopsis
Naked Empire finds Richard and Kahlan drawn into the isolated mountain empire of Bandakar, whose population has been conditioned to reject all violence even as the Imperial Order overruns their land. Complicating matters, Richard has been poisoned and his magical gift has stopped working as expected, a failure rooted in his own misunderstanding of its nature, leaving him vulnerable at a critical moment. Richard and Kahlan must find a way to convince a fervently pacifist people to take up arms in their own defense while Richard searches for a way to restore his damaged abilities, all while the Imperial Order tightens its grip on the empire's borders.

- Series: Sword of Truth (main sequence) core; position 8 of 15 in the series' recorded order

Notes
- From the series record (Sword of Truth (main sequence)): 15-novel continuous main sequence; publication order equals internal chronology throughout. Correction: The Pillars of Creation's first US edition is 2001 (Nov 20), not 2002 as some secondary listings state; 2002 is a paperback/reprint date bleeding into 'first publication' fields.
Neighbouring works
Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings, but they resolve to the exact same sequence for this book, so one combined line is shown instead of two identical ones.
- Reading order, within the series Sword of Truth (main sequence): position 8 of 15: previous The Pillars of Creation (2001) · next Chainfire (2005)
