Synopsis
Obsidian Butterfly is the ninth novel in Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series. Anita travels to New Mexico at the request of her friend and fellow assassin Edward, who needs her help investigating a string of gruesome killings carried out by an unusually skilled and sadistic serial murderer working the case alongside him. The trip removes Anita from her usual St. Louis surroundings and from the vampire and werewolf politics that have consumed her recent life, even as her ongoing efforts to manage her magical training continue to strain her relationships with both Richard and Jean-Claude back home. As she and Edward close in on the killer, later identified as the formidable Olaf, Anita is forced to confront a threat whose methods and motivations differ sharply from anything she has faced among the supernatural community.
