Synopsis
October's Baby continues the Dread Empire series in the aftermath of the war chronicled in A Shadow of All Night Falling, following the mercenary captain Bragi Ragnarson and his companions as they navigate the uneasy peace, and renewed threats, left in that conflict's wake. The immortal Empire of Shinsan continues to extend its shadow over the western kingdoms, while old rivalries among the mercenary companies and the fractured principalities of Kavelin complicate any hope of lasting stability. As fresh conspiracies take shape among the Dread Empire's undying rulers and the mortal lords who must contend with them, Bragi and his allies find themselves pulled once again into a widening struggle whose consequences reach far beyond the mountain kingdoms where the series began.

- From the series record (Dread Empire): Original trilogy, two later-written prequels, and a run of sequels; the planned concluding volume was never finished after the manuscript was lost. A ninth title, "Wrath of Kings," was considered but excluded: on inspection it is an omnibus edition bundling books 6-8, not a standalone novel with an independent reader-rating pool.
