Synopsis
Five children live at a strict, isolated boarding school in the British countryside. They are its only pupils, they do not know their real names or ages, and they do not seem to grow older. Each has an odd talent: one finds hidden passages through solid walls, one reshapes matter nearby, one reads minds, one works magic, and one appears to come from a higher dimension. The staff keep them apart from the village and watch them closely, and a doctor gives them potions that seem meant to dull their abilities. When two of the children overhear a meeting of the school's governors, they learn that their origins are stranger than they ever guessed.
