Synopsis
Continuing to be narrated by Myrddin, this fourth book of the Pendragon Cycle follows the newly established Kingdom of Summer as it faces a serious new threat from beyond Britain's shores. An invading Vandal army led by Twrch Trwyth, known as the Black Boar, strikes first at Ireland and then at Britain itself, threatening the stability Arthur has worked to build in the earlier books. As if the invasion were not danger enough, a devastating plague follows in its wake, spreading through the kingdom and endangering the fragile peace and prosperity Arthur has achieved. The book follows Arthur and his companions as they contend with both the external military threat of the Vandal invasion and the internal crisis brought on by the plague sweeping through his lands.
