Synopsis

The fifth and final book of the Pendragon Cycle is narrated primarily by Gwalchavad, with additional interludes from Morgian, and centers on Arthur's efforts to construct a shrine intended to house the Holy Grail. Into this relatively settled period comes the mysterious and beautiful Morgaws, whose arrival at court unsettles the fragile stability Arthur has maintained since the events of the previous book. Treachery soon emerges from within Arthur's own court, forcing his warriors to leave the safety of the kingdom and journey into the perilous Wasteland of Lyonesse in search of the sacred Grail relic. The book follows this quest as Arthur's knights brave the dangers of the wasteland, testing the bonds of loyalty and faith that have held the Kingdom of Summer together throughout the series.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
