Synopsis
Inos is now a queen in exile, hunted by the warlock wardens who rule the world, and she believes Rap is dead. Rap is alive, a former galley slave who has come back with a magic sword and a wand, and he is determined to help his queen whatever the cost. He tries to use the wand to make her happy, but the arrival of the Nordland raider Kalkor threatens everything he has planned.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
