Synopsis
The mad dwarf sorcerer Zinixo has taken control of Hub, the capital of the Impire, although daily life there carries on. He uses enchantment to pass himself off as the rightful Imperor, Shandie, and his sorcerers crush or enslave anyone who opposes him. King Rap and the true Shandie vow to end his reign. While Zinixo and his Covin hunt Rap and his companions, Rap must warn the other sorcerers of a plan to unite against Zinixo, and the group escapes across the Cenmere Sea and sets sail.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
