Synopsis
Phantom continues the Chainfire trilogy as Richard and Kahlan make their way back toward the People's Palace in D'Hara while still contending with the aftermath of the memory-erasing Chainfire spell. The Sisters of the Dark and Emperor Jagang each pursue their own separate designs involving the stolen Boxes of Orden, forcing Richard to race against both factions before their plans converge. As Kahlan struggles to fully reclaim her stolen identity and place in the world, Richard works to uncover exactly what the Sisters and Jagang intend to do with the Boxes, aware that time is running out before their combined schemes can be set irreversibly in motion.
Where it sits
- Universe: Sword of Truth
- Series: Sword of Truth (main sequence) core; position 10 of 15 in the series' recorded order

Notes
- From the series record (Sword of Truth (main sequence)): 15-novel continuous main sequence; publication order equals internal chronology throughout. Correction: The Pillars of Creation's first US edition is 2001 (Nov 20), not 2002 as some secondary listings state; 2002 is a paperback/reprint date bleeding into 'first publication' fields.
Neighbouring works
Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings, but they resolve to the exact same sequence for this book, so one combined line is shown instead of two identical ones.
- Reading order, within the series Sword of Truth (main sequence): position 10 of 15: previous Chainfire (2005) · next Confessor (2007)
