Synopsis

Sixteen-year-old Artemesia Fitz-Willoughby Weatherhouse wakes from a bump on the head at her stifling boarding school with her memory restored: she is the daughter of Molly Faith, the pirate queen Piratica, who never hurt a soul and won her booty by cleverness, and she is going to sea. Escaping by the chimney, Art tracks down her mother's old crew in the taverns of Lundon, only to learn that her baby memories are of playing pirates on a stage: Molly's piracy was a theatrical act. Art refuses to believe it, whips the actors into a crew, acquires a ship and a famous parrot, and sets out after real treasure in a parallel world much like our own around 1802, in which "Free" England is a republic. Lost islands, treasure maps, storms at sea and a very real rival pirate await.
