Synopsis
Arslan and his companions leave Pars for the neighbouring kingdom of Sindhura. There they are drawn into a struggle over the royal succession, in which Prince Rajendra seeks the crown from his half-brother. Arslan weighs the chance of an ally for his own war against the Lusitanians against the danger of taking sides in a foreign quarrel. Narsus plans the strategy while Daryun faces rival champions, and the matter is to be settled by a formal trial by combat before the gods. Meanwhile word of events at home reaches the prince, and the cost of leaving Pars behind grows clearer.
