Synopsis
The series opens in the town of Easton, where Rhapsody, a gifted singer of mixed human and Lirin blood, is fleeing the unwanted attentions of a dangerous man known as the Wind of Death. Her escape throws her together with two strangers, the assassin Achmed and his massive companion Grunthor, and the three become fugitives together. Seeking a way out of their collapsing situation, they travel through the passages of an ancient, colossal tree and emerge fourteen centuries later into a world transformed beyond recognition, its geography, peoples, and politics all reshaped by the time that has passed. Stripped of everything familiar, the trio must find their footing in this unfamiliar age even as it becomes clear that each of them is bound to a destiny larger than the flight that first brought them together.
