Synopsis

Continuing on from the first volume, Rhapsody, Achmed, and Grunthor make their way through the transformed world they emerged into, with Rhapsody now recognized as a Singer whose voice carries real power. Achmed, ruling as king of Ylorc, and his companions become entangled with figures such as the dragon-blooded wanderer Ashe and the Invoker Llauron, while Rhapsody is tasked with delivering a dragon's claw and mastering a fire-touched blade. Their path leads them to a slumbering being called the Sleeping Child, whose safety becomes a shared responsibility as demonic forces take an interest in what it may unlock, and as an agent called the Rakshas is sent to hunt the group down. Amid these dangers, Rhapsody and her companions also begin to uncover truths about their own hidden histories.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Symphony of Ages): Publication order = internal chronology throughout, confirmed by the author directly (Fantasy-Faction 'Cauldron Interview', 2018): a first trilogy, two bridge novels, a second trilogy, and a capper. Corrects several commonly-repeated years: Destiny is 2001 (not 2000), The Merchant Emperor is 2014 (not 2010), The Hollow Queen is 2015 (not 2013).

Neighbouring works

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings, but they resolve to the exact same sequence for this book, so one combined line is shown instead of two identical ones.
