Elizabeth Haydon was born in 1965, the daughter of a U.S. Air Force officer, and moved frequently during her childhood before attending Binghamton University. She worked in publishing for more than three decades, including as a developmental editor and textbook writer, before becoming a full-time novelist; her background in education led her to create free supplemental curriculum materials for teachers alongside her fiction. She is best known for the Symphony of Ages series, beginning with the Rhapsody Trilogy and its first volume, Rhapsody: Child of Blood (1999), which follows a woman who uses true names and music as sources of magic, alongside two companions who travel through time; the series continued through several sequels culminating in The Weaver's Lament (2016). She also wrote The Lost Journals of Ven Polypheme, a four-book prequel series set in the same universe, including The Floating Island (2006) and The Tree of Water (2014). Haydon donated the royalties from her first two novels to children's charities, including the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, reflecting a longstanding commitment to causes connected to children's welfare.
