Synopsis
Some time after the events of the original trilogy, Rhapsody and her husband Ashe -- now established as rulers over a continent -- face a renewed threat from the demonic F'dor, whose human vessel turns out to be a man Rhapsody had believed dead. Accompanied again by their old companions Achmed and Grunthor, the two must contend with this resurfacing enemy while managing the political demands of the realms they now govern. The novel weaves the personal history between Rhapsody and Ashe together with the wider intrigue surrounding the F'dor's return, as the group works to track the demon's host and understand how he survived, all set against the layered dynastic politics that have built up around the series' central characters.

Notes
- From the series record (The Symphony of Ages): Publication order = internal chronology throughout, confirmed by the author directly (Fantasy-Faction 'Cauldron Interview', 2018): a first trilogy, two bridge novels, a second trilogy, and a capper. Corrects several commonly-repeated years: Destiny is 2001 (not 2000), The Merchant Emperor is 2014 (not 2010), The Hollow Queen is 2015 (not 2013).
