Synopsis

Rise of the King continues the Companions Codex trilogy in the aftermath of Night of the Hunter, as the drow offensive against the Silver Marches forces the orc kingdom of Many-Arrows into crisis. Internal strife over succession threatens to fracture the orc realm, and Bruenor Battlehammer and his companions are drawn into the resulting power struggle, aware that its outcome could reshape the balance of power across the North. Drizzt Do'Urden and the reunited fellowship must weigh how far to involve themselves in a conflict among their traditional enemies when the result may determine whether the region gains a period of peace or further war, continuing the broader struggle between the allies of good and the dark forces pressing in on the Silver Marches.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
