Synopsis

Scion of Cyador, the eleventh novel in L. E. Modesitt Jr.'s Saga of Recluce, continues directly from Magi'i of Cyador and follows Lorn after he has distinguished himself as an exemplary officer on Cyador's dangerous frontier. Lorn returns home to the capital of Cyad expecting a measure of peace and recognition, but instead finds himself the target of rivals and enemies within the imperial court who see his growing reputation as a threat. When political upheaval follows the death of the Emperor, the resulting instability threatens Lorn and his family directly, as factions maneuver for power and Cyad itself risks sliding toward chaos in the absence of clear succession. Lorn must draw on both his military discipline and his latent magical talent to protect his household and navigate the empire's fracturing political order.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Saga of Recluce): One continuous, internally chronological world across many reading-order sub-arcs; the whole published run to date is Core Canon, per the author's own single ordered list. Ongoing; a further volume (Last of the First) is announced for 2026 and is not yet published, so it is not registered (Constitution Article 2).

Neighbouring works

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
