Synopsis
Ledger Kale, nicknamed Ledge, is a cousin of the Beaumonts who has just turned thirteen. His savvy turns out to be a destructive one: whatever he touches tends to break. He and his family travel from Indiana to Wyoming for a wedding at his uncle's ranch, and Ledge is determined to keep his savvy secret from the outsiders who will be there. Along the way his relative Rocket teaches him about scumbling, a way of bringing a troublesome savvy under control and making it useful. With a large cast of relatives, a road trip that keeps going wrong, and some early romance, Ledge has to decide whether his gift is a curse or something he can use for his family.
