Synopsis
Seasonal Fears, the second Alchemical Journeys novel, follows childhood best friends Melanie and Harry as they grow up together from the early 2000s onward. Melanie lives with a serious heart condition and, unknown to her for much of her life, was engineered by her alchemist father Roland to carry a deep connection to the power of Winter, while Harry has grown into her steadfast protector. When the reigning Winter Queen and Summer King both die, Melanie and Harry learn that they are among the candidates eligible to inherit the seasonal crowns, and Melanie's twin sister Aven, long believed to have died at birth but secretly kept alive through their father's alchemy, emerges as a rival contender for the Summer throne. The three are drawn toward a mysterious labyrinth where candidates must compete for the crowns, even as their newly awakening powers begin to reshape who they are.
