Synopsis
The third Kencyrath novel finds Jame reunited with her twin brother Torisen, the Highlord, and sent to live among her own people in the Women's Halls at Gothregor -- a life of enforced obedience and silence she finds difficult to bear. Pursued by Shadow Guild assassins targeting her clan and entangled in the schemes of the Kencyr Matriarchs, Jame sets out with companions, including her hunting cat Jorin and the priestling Kindrie, on a quest to rescue a friend held by a powerful, ambitious Kencyr lord who covets a dangerous ancient tome. Along the way she begins to glimpse her place in a far larger struggle against the encroaching force known as Perimal Darkling, and the possibility that she is meant to serve as one of three avatars tied to objects of great power.
