Synopsis

Serpentine is the twenty-sixth novel in the Anita Blake series. Federal marshal and necromancer Anita Blake travels to a remote island resort in Florida for a wedding, accompanied by her partners Micah and Nathaniel. While there, Micah is drawn into investigating an unusual, hereditary form of lycanthropy afflicting a local family, one said to be rooted in an ancient curse that turns its victims into masses of snakes rather than a single animal form. The trip darkens when women staying at the hotel begin disappearing without explanation, and suspicion quickly falls on members of Anita's own traveling group. A detective assigned to the case appears to wield unsettling psychic influence over witnesses and investigators alike, complicating Anita's attempts to get at the truth. Anita must work with her companions to uncover who, or what, is responsible before the wedding celebrations can safely continue.
