Synopsis
Sucker Punch is the twenty-seventh novel in the Anita Blake series. U.S. Marshal Anita Blake is called to Michigan's Upper Peninsula to consult on a case that appears straightforward: a young wereleopard stands accused of brutally killing his uncle, and an execution warrant against him is already moving forward. As Anita reviews the evidence, small inconsistencies in the case begin to trouble her, even as the tight-knit, fearful local community pushes hard for a swift resolution and treats any doubt about the suspect's guilt with open hostility. Working against a ticking clock and a community eager to see the matter closed, Anita, a necromancer and supernatural consultant for law enforcement, must weigh her professional instincts against local pressure and prejudice as she tries to determine whether the accused truly committed the killing or is being made a convenient scapegoat.
