Synopsis
The war against Modru goes badly. Laurelin, the beloved of young King Galen, is held prisoner inside Modru's iron fortress, and an attempt to free her fails. Two surviving Warrows make their way back to the Boskydells, where they find Modru's forces raiding the countryside, and they begin to organize the small folk to resist. Meanwhile Galen, the Warrow Tuck, the Elf-lord Gildor and the Dwarf Brega travel south to gather armies and allies for a stand against the dark mage. The book follows the two threads, one in the homeland of the Warrows and one on the roads of the wider world, as the allies try to unite before Modru's plan comes to fruition.
