Synopsis

In a bitter winter, young Warrows of the Boskydells, a pastoral land of small folk, train as Thornwalkers to guard their homeland against Vulgs, the wolves of the dark. When a messenger arrives with word that Modru of Gron is moving against the world of Mithgar, Tuck Underbank, Danner Bramblethorn and their companions travel to the border fortress of Challerain Keep. There they meet High King Aurion and Prince Igon. The dark mage Modru is working magic in his Iron Tower to call back his master, the exiled Dark Liege Gyphon. Men, Elves, Dwarves and Warrows must decide how to meet the gathering darkness, since defeat would bring a long night over the whole world.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Publication order, within the series The Iron Tower: position 1 of 3: next Shadows of Doom (1984)
  • Internal chronology, within Mithgar: position 1 of 14: next Trek to Kraggen-Cor (1986)
