Synopsis

Smoke Bitten continues the Mercy Thompson series when a dangerous fae creature escapes from Underhill, the closed-off fae reservation, and begins killing people in the Tri-Cities, forcing Mercy and the pack to respond before the death toll rises further. Identifying and containing the creature proves difficult, since its nature and motives are unfamiliar even to the fae Mercy has come to know, complicating any straightforward solution. As the investigation unfolds, Mercy must navigate delicate negotiations among werewolves, fae, and other supernatural factions who each have their own stake in how the threat is handled, all while trying to keep ordinary humans out of the crossfire. With trust in short supply among the factions involved, Mercy relies on old alliances and hard-won experience to hold together a fragile cooperation long enough to protect everyone caught between the escaped creature and the politics surrounding it.
