Synopsis

Soul Taken continues the Mercy Thompson series when the unpredictable vampire Wulfe, an old and unsettling acquaintance of Mercy's, goes missing under circumstances that immediately raise concern. As Mercy begins investigating his disappearance, she uncovers a string of other vanishings connected in ways that are not immediately obvious, suggesting a pattern larger than a single missing vampire. Her search eventually leads her to old stories about a mysterious figure known as the Harvester, said to collect souls in ways that blur the line between myth and immediate threat. Piecing together local legend with what she observes in the present, Mercy tries to determine whether the Harvester is behind the disappearances or whether something else is at work. As she gets closer to the truth, she draws on her ties across the vampire, werewolf, and fae communities to make sense of a threat that seems to be growing bolder.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Internal chronology, within Mercy Thompson / Alpha and Omega: position 19 of 20: previous Smoke Bitten (2020) · next Winter Lost (2024)
