Synopsis
Ligea's son, Arrant, leaves Tyrans for Kardiastan to take his place as Mirager-heir, while Ligea prepares to halt an insurrection. But Arrant must face rivals who would do anything to stop him becoming heir to the throne, while the Mirage Makers abandon him to the deadly Shiver Barrens at a crucial moment. The conclusion of the trilogy, a coming-of-age story for Arrant set in the quasi-Middle Eastern realm of Kardiastan, among characters familiar from Heart of the Mirage and The Shadow of Tyr; a finalist for the 2007 Aurealis Award for best fantasy novel.
