Overview
Glenda Larke's Mirage Makers trilogy is a fantasy of empire, occupation and identity, set in a world shaped by the Tyranian Empire and its secretive network of spies, the Brotherhood, and by the occupied, quasi-Middle Eastern realm of Kardiastan. Ligea Gayed, stolen from her people as a child and raised as a loyal citizen of Tyr, a Brotherhood agent who can sense emotions and tell truth from lie, is sent to her homeland to hunt a rebel leader and finds secrets about the empire and her own past; the later books carry the rebellion to the heart of the Empire and follow her son Arrant as heir to Kardiastan. Reviewers praised its examination of the ethics of imperialism.
