Synopsis
Eydrth, a Master Songsmith with no magical Gift of his own, sets out in the Witch World's High Hallack region to rescue his father, a once-formidable sorcerer, whose mind has been overtaken by a corrupting evil force. Lacking spellcraft, he must find another way to reach and save the man he loves, drawing on skill, will, and the bonds between them rather than sorcery.
Where it sits
- Universe: Witch World
- Series: Witch World: High Hallack Cycle ; position 10 of 11 in the series' recorded order
- Author: Andre Norton
- Author: A.C. Crispin
Notes
- Co-written with A.C. Crispin.
- From the series record (Witch World: High Hallack Cycle): A separate High Hallack sub-continuity within the wider Witch World setting, solely written by Andre Norton (Core Canon, the Estcarp Cycle, is unaffected). 2 later titles co-written by other hands (Songsmith 1992 w/ A.C. Crispin, Silver May Tarnish 2005 w/ Lyn McConchie) are deliberately excluded per this project's credited-authorship bright line (Darkover/Pern precedent); The Gates to Witch World (1994) is an omnibus of already-counted novels, not new content.
Neighbouring works
Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
- Publication order, within the series Witch World: High Hallack Cycle: position 10 of 11: previous Were-Wrath (1984) · next Silver May Tarnish (2005)
