Synopsis
Squire is the third book in the Protector of the Small quartet, covering Keladry of Mindelan's years as a squire after passing her page examinations. Without an obvious mentor lined up, Kel is surprised to be taken on by Lord Raoul, commander of the elite King's Own, and begins a demanding apprenticeship that mixes combat training with real duties such as disaster relief alongside Raoul's company. Her circle from her page years remains central to her life, complicated by the arrival of a Yamani princess betrothed to the heir to the throne and by a growing romance with fellow squire Cleon. Kel also confronts injustice when someone close to her is mistreated by a nobleman, sharpening her sense of what kind of knight she intends to become as she works toward the trial that stands between her and knighthood.
