Synopsis

Starless Night, the second book of the Legacy of the Drow quartet, finds Drizzt Do'Urden resolving to travel alone back into Menzoberranzan in an attempt to head off another drow attack on Mithral Hall, leaving his magical panther companion, Guenhwyvar, behind with Regis and swearing him to secrecy about his destination. Catti-brie, learning where he has gone, follows him into the city rather than let him face it alone. Once inside the drow capital, Drizzt is discovered and taken prisoner by the ruling House Baenre under the formidable Matron Baenre, and Catti-brie is captured soon after in her attempt to reach him. With both of them held within the heart of enemy territory, and the imprisoned assassin Artemis Entreri now in the custody of the mercenary leader Jarlaxle, the novel follows the effort to escape Menzoberranzan and prevent the coming assault on Mithral Hall.
