Synopsis
Stronghold opens the Dragon Star trilogy with the Desert and the wider continent thrown into crisis by a sudden, large-scale invasion. High Prince Rohan, his wife Sioned, their son Pol, and Andry of Goddess Keep are caught off guard as an unfamiliar foreign army lands and drives inland, its origins and goals a mystery to every princedom it strikes. The assault falls with particular weight on the Desert, Rohan's own homeland, forcing him and Pol to organize its defense while allied rulers scramble to protect their own territories against the same unknown enemy. As the fighting spreads, the defenders begin to notice a peculiar pattern in the invaders' behavior: an evident dread of the dragons that inhabit the Desert, a fear the characters start to suspect could be turned into a strategic advantage against a foe no one yet understands.
