Overview
Dragon Prince follows Rohan, a sunrunner-blooded prince, and his sorcerer-warrior wife Sioned across a desert world governed by dragon-derived magic and shifting political alliances among princedoms such as Princemarch and the island of Dorval. The original trilogy (1988-1990) centers on Rohan and Sioned's rise and rule amid succession disputes and the discovery of forbidden sorcery recorded in ancient scrolls, while Sunrunners, magic-users bonded to sunlight and, in some cases, to dragons themselves, play a central role in both politics and warfare. It was followed by a direct sequel trilogy, Dragon Star (1991-1994), centred on Rohan and Sioned's son Pol as he claims the princedom of Princemarch and confronts hidden sorcerers threatening the realm; both trilogies form one continuous generational saga by Melanie Rawn, whose debut novel Dragon Prince received a Locus Award nomination.
