Synopsis
The second book of the High Druid of Shannara trilogy continues directly from Jarka Ruus, following three interconnected threads. Pen Ohmsford and his companions, Khyber Elessedil and Cinnaminson, press on through the northern wilderness pursued by treacherous Druids loyal to Shadea a'Ru, seeking the mystical Tanequil tree that may help save his aunt Grianne. Meanwhile, Pen's parents uncover the scope of the conspiracy at Druid headquarters, and Grianne herself remains imprisoned within the Forbidding, struggling against the schemes of its ruler. Aided by troll leaders Kermadec and Atalan, Pen's group faces a threefold danger: the pursuing Druids, a shape-shifting demon called the Moric working with the Federation toward the destruction of the Ellcrys, the tree that holds back a demon invasion, and the peril closing in on Grianne in the Forbidding.
