Synopsis

Told by Dr Dominique "Mo" O'Brien, Bob Howard's estranged wife, as the long-feared awakening of Lovecraftian horrors draws closer and ordinary people begin developing superpowers. Mo is promoted to run a new department linking the Laundry with the police, staffed in part by two women who share a history with her husband. She is also the bearer of Lecter, an occult bone violin whose hold over her keeps growing and fills her dreams with the King in Yellow. Pressed into a police scheme to control the minds of the British public, she has to stop it from releasing that entity, and destroys the violin in doing so.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Laundry Files): The main sequence about the Laundry, Britain's secret occult intelligence agency, from Bob Howard's first field mission to the agency's end.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
