Synopsis
The third Heirs of Saint Camber novel (Del Rey hardcover, 10 May 1994) begins five and a half years after King Javan's Year. The Deryni pretender Prince Marek invades Gwynedd with Torenthi backing, and King Rhys Michael Haldane, long a puppet of his great lords, finally rides out to meet the threat. His allies awaken his Haldane powers, but the army is plagued by assassinations, and a parley with Prince Miklos ends in battle, where the king kills Miklos but is wounded. He dies at Saint Ostrythe's Convent after poor medical treatment. The northern lords and the Camberian Council then confront the great lords at the royal tomb, and Owain is crowned king.
