Synopsis
Set in the Seven Satrapies, a federation of nations governed by the theocratic Chromeria, in a world of advanced pre-industrial technology where magic is drawn from light to create a substance called luxin, the story follows Gavin Guile, who holds the title of Prism and is regarded as the most powerful person alive. When Gavin learns of a previously unknown teenage son, Kip, living in the war-torn region of Tyrea, he travels there to find that its ruler, King Garadul, has declared independence and is leading an armed rebellion against Chromerian control, burning towns and conscripting soldiers as he moves to seize the port city of Garriston. Gavin must defend against Garadul's uprising while navigating the personal complications of Kip's sudden presence in his life and his history with the Blackguard officer Karris White Oak.
