Synopsis
The second novel in Brent Weeks' Lightbringer series picks up shortly after The Black Prism. Gavin Guile, the Prism, is secretly dying with less than a year left to live and faces the pressure of fifty thousand refugees displaced by the previous book's war, a newly acknowledged bastard son in Kip, and an ex-fiancee who may know his darkest secret, all while magic itself begins running wild across the Seven Satrapies in ways the Chromeria struggles to control. Meanwhile Kip trains to become a Blackguard, testing his resolve against rigorous instructors as he discovers the extent of his own magical abilities and tries to find his place within the Chromeria's hierarchy. Gavin works to conceal the truth of his condition while addressing the mounting crises threatening to expose it.
