Brent Weeks was born on March 7, 1977, in Whitefish, Montana, and graduated from Hillsdale College in 2000 with a degree in English, including a semester abroad at Oxford that he has cited as an influence on his writing. Before becoming a full-time novelist, he worked as a teacher at Salem Academy in Oregon and as a bartender. He is best known for the Night Angel trilogy (2008), comprising The Way of Shadows, Shadow's Edge, and Beyond the Shadows, and for the Lightbringer series (2010-2019), which began with The Black Prism; a fourth Night Angel novel, Night Angel Nemesis, followed in 2023. His debut novel and every subsequent Lightbringer book reached the New York Times hardcover fiction list, with The Burning White reaching number four on the combined print and e-book chart. Weeks won the David Gemmell Legend Award in 2013 for The Blinding Knife, and has received nominations for the Compton Crook and Endeavour Awards.
