Overview
The Night Angel Trilogy is Brent Weeks's debut epic fantasy series about an assassin drawn into a web of magic and politics, all three books published in 2008. Its protagonist, trained from childhood as a "wetboy" -- an assassin whose killings are empowered by dark, semi-magical means -- must navigate court intrigue, criminal underworlds and his own reluctant rise toward legendary status across the trilogy. All three volumes, The Way of Shadows, Shadow's Edge, and Beyond the Shadows, were released within the same year in mass-market paperback, an unusual publishing strategy for a debut author that helped the trilogy build momentum quickly with readers. The series has since been printed in more than fourteen languages and sold over a million copies, and has been adapted into a graphic novel line from Yen Press and audio dramatizations from GraphicAudio, with a tenth-anniversary hardcover edition released in 2018 attesting to its sustained popularity within grimdark-adjacent epic fantasy.
