Overview
The Rigante is a four-book heroic-fantasy sequence by David Gemmell tracing a Celtic-inflected tribal people, the Rigante, across roughly three centuries as they resist conquest by the expanding, Rome-like Stone empire. Sword in the Storm (1999) and Midnight Falcon (2000) follow the warrior Connavar and his son Bane; Ravenheart (2001) and Stormrider (2002) jump forward to a later generation fighting the same empire's descendants under different names. The sequence carries Gemmell's recurring concerns with honour, aging warriors and the cost of empire into an explicitly Celtic-vs-Roman-flavoured setting distinct from his other series.
