Synopsis

Continuing directly from the first Drowning Empire novel, The Bone Shard Emperor finds Lin Sukai newly crowned as Emperor and working to stabilize a fragile hold on power. She faces rebellion from island governors and from the Shardless Few, a movement seeking to overthrow the dynasty, while the spy Jovis wrestles with conflicting loyalties and the rebels Phalue and Ranami press for change on Nephilanu Island. Lin also uncovers troubling truths about the foundations the floating islands rest on, learning that witstone mining, long relied upon to keep them aloft, is instead causing them to sink, a discovery that forces her to outlaw the practice and further destabilizes the empire's economy. As old enemies including Nisong maneuver against her, Lin must navigate betrayal and magical revelations while trying to hold her throne and her people together.
