Synopsis

The Companions opens The Sundering, a shared event across several Forgotten Realms series, and begins R.A. Salvatore's own contribution to it. The goddess Mielikki offers the souls of Drizzt Do'Urden's deceased friends Bruenor, Regis, Wulfgar, and Catti-brie a chance to return to life, so that they might stand beside him again during the coming upheaval as the linked worlds of Toril and Abeir are pulled apart. Reincarnated into new bodies and new circumstances scattered across the Realms, each companion must grow up again from the beginning, unaware for a time of who they once were, while carrying the promise of a reunion with the drow ranger who has long outlived them. The novel follows their separate new lives taking shape in different corners of Toril as they edge toward the moment they will be needed most.

Notes

  • The Sundering #1
  • From the series record (The Legend of Drizzt (author line)): R.A. Salvatore's 40-novel line (1988-2025), incl. The Sellswords; sub-series recorded per book. Continues with Drizzt's daughter (2025-).

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
