Synopsis

The Demon Awakens opens the DemonWars Saga in the land of Corona, where an ancient evil called the demon dactyl stirs after a long dormancy and unleashes armies of goblins, giants and powries against the frontier settlements of the north. The attack on the village of Dundallis leaves two children, Elbryan and his friend Jilseponie, known as Pony, orphaned and separated, with Elbryan taken in and raised by the reclusive elves of the Wilderlands, who train him in their ways and shape him into a formidable ranger. As the demon dactyl's forces continue to threaten Corona, the wandering monk Avelyn Desbris discovers the power of the land's magical gemstones and begins to grasp the scale of the danger facing the kingdom, setting Elbryan, Pony and Avelyn on separate paths that draw them toward the rising evil and the looming confrontation it demands.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Publication order, within the series The DemonWars Saga: first trilogy: position 1 of 3: next The Demon Spirit (1999)
  • Internal chronology, within The DemonWars Saga: position 1 of 7: next The Demon Spirit (1999)
