Synopsis
The Dirty Streets of Heaven, published by Tad Williams in 2012, opens the Bobby Dollar series. Bobby Dollar, formally the angel Doloriel, works as an advocate for the souls of the recently deceased, arguing their cases in the celestial court that decides whether they go to Heaven or Hell. When a soul under his direct protection vanishes from the afterlife entirely, seemingly stolen before judgment could even be passed, Bobby launches his own investigation into a disappearance that should not be possible under the rules governing the universe. His inquiry quickly draws unwanted attention from both Heaven and Hell, along with a monstrous, undead enforcer sent to stop him, forcing Bobby to navigate a supernatural bureaucracy riddled with secrets while trying to work out who has the power, and the motive, to make a soul disappear.
