Synopsis
In a time before legends had yet been born, Magda Searus, married to the powerful leader of her people and safe among those gifted with great ability, is protected from a distant world descending into war. Then her husband, a man who loved life and loved her, unexpectedly takes his own life, and she finds herself alone: ungifted herself, she no longer has standing among her people and is isolated in a society that seems to be crumbling around her. Driven to discover why he would abandon her and their people at so dangerous a time, she begins to uncover more behind his death than anyone knew, and what she finds no one is willing to believe.
