Synopsis

The Omen Machine opens in the aftermath of Richard and Kahlan's wedding celebration at the conclusion of Confessor, as the couple begins settling into what appears to be a hard-won peace. That calm is disrupted when a strange mechanical device is discovered beneath the palace, one that generates unnervingly accurate prophecies without the involvement of any wizard. At first the machine's predictions seem harmless, even helpful, but they steadily grow darker and more specific, unsettling the court. When a particular prophecy visibly terrifies the wizard Zedd, Richard and Kahlan realize the omen machine may pose a danger far greater than it first appeared, threatening to unravel the fragile stability of their newly peaceful reign.

  • Series: Sword of Truth (main sequence) core; position 12 of 15 in the series' recorded order

Notes

  • From the series record (Sword of Truth (main sequence)): 15-novel continuous main sequence; publication order equals internal chronology throughout. Correction: The Pillars of Creation's first US edition is 2001 (Nov 20), not 2002 as some secondary listings state; 2002 is a paperback/reprint date bleeding into 'first publication' fields.
