Synopsis

It is 1930, and three decades have passed since the wizard Yehudah Schaalman was defeated, sealed in a copper flask and buried in the Syrian desert. Chava the golem quietly tends her house and garden in Brooklyn, while others gravitate to New York: Ahmad the jinni, who has lost his job after the 1929 stock market crash; the mysterious Thomas Beshara, a riveter on the rising Empire State Building who has hidden ties to them both; and Kreindel Altschul, who still grieves her own destroyed golem, Yossele. Will Schaalman escape the flask, bind Chava to his will and re-enslave Ahmad, or can they finally defeat him and free themselves?
