Synopsis
After completing two years of military training, Jame receives a challenging new assignment from her brother Torisen, the Highlord: she must lead a newly formed hundred-soldier command to reclaim Tagmeth, an abandoned and long-ruined fortress in the northernmost reaches of Kencyrath territory. The mission proves far more complicated than it first appears, as Jame contends with the fortress's harsh, unforgiving environment, her brother's unstated true motives for sending her there, and a rival claim to Tagmeth pressed by the antagonistic Lord Caldane of House Caineron. Even the journey to the fortress grows eventful, bringing old acquaintances and unexpected complications before Jame's command has fully settled in.
